Free template

The UK invoice template we use, with the VAT fields already in the right order.

A plain-text invoice you can paste into Word, Google Docs or your invoicing tool. Every field HMRC expects on a VAT invoice, plus the company details UK law requires and the late-payment line most freelancers forget.

What is inside

  • A complete invoice layout with every field labelled
  • The 13 fields a full VAT invoice must show, in the order accountants expect
  • Company name, registered number, place of registration and registered office
  • A payment block with bank details and a 14-day term
  • The statutory late-payment sentence, ready to use
  • A short reference section explaining what each field is for

How to use it

  1. Copy the file into your word processor or invoicing tool and save it as a template.
  2. Replace the bracketed placeholders once — company details, bank details, terms — and keep that master copy.
  3. For each job, change the invoice number, dates, line items and purchase order reference.
  4. Delete the reference section at the bottom before you send.

Who it is for

Sole traders and limited companies invoicing UK business clients, and anyone who has had an invoice queried for a missing field or a missing VAT number.
